Second Group Completes Series of Green Workshops

A second group of citizens completed the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP) workshops in late August. The group began its endeavor in June, 2011 and worked and learned together through a series of three workshops that lasted approximately four hours each. The second workshop group included representation from the following organizations: Austin Peay State University, B.R. Miller Company, Campbell Crossing, Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, Faith Outreach Church, Ladd & Childers Document Solutions, Mainstream Heating & Cooling, Mathew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, Nyrstar of Clarksville Inc., One Hour Heating & Cooling L.L.C. and Signs Now.

Local Green Certification workshops were developed by the CMCGCP Work Committee, a group of environmental professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to support the community in this sustainability endeavor. The work committee includes representatives from Bridgestone Metalpha USA, Hemlock Semiconductor, L.L.C. and Trane – representative of the companies that lead the CMCGCP along with Planters Bank and more recently,  Florim USA and Page & Tuttle. Leaders from these businesses make-up  the Steering Committee – the group who guides the program and approves the content of the workshops.

City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan expressed her support at the last workshop by telling the group how much she appreciated their commitment to practicing environmental stewardship in the community.

Organizations that participate in the workshops learn about the environmental issues that affect Clarksville and Montgomery County from local professionals who work in those areas. They also learn how they can save money on their bottom line expenses, share resources for disposal of waste materials and prepare for future mandates and changes that are expected.

The CMCGCP program stemmed from a 2010 Leadership Clarksville Class with support from the City and County Mayors and leadership from the businesses mentioned above.

The following organizations have committed to the September through November workshop series:  Action Air Conditioning Service Inc., Byrd Surveying, Inc., Cumberland Sanitation, First Choice Moving Company, Gateway Medical Center, Hemlock Semiconductor, L.L.C., Hendrickson Trailer Suspension, Jostens, Legends Bank, Page & Tuttle Clarksville Location, Stone, Rudolph & Henry, PLC, Tennessee Rehabilitation Center and Trane.

Applications are being accepted for January through March workshops. Please contact CMCGCP Manager, Michelle Newell for more information at manewell@montgomerycountytn.org or call 931-217-3332.
