Group Three Working Towards Green Certification
A third group of businesses completed the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP) workshops in November. The group began the process in September, 2011 and worked and concluded a series of three workshops that lasted approximately four hours each. The second workshop group included representation from the following businesses: Action Air Conditioning Service Inc., First Choice Moving Company, Gateway Medical Center, Hemlock Semiconductor, L.L.C., Jostens, Legends Bank, Page & Tuttle Clarksville Location, Stone, Rudolph & Henry, PLC, Tennessee Rehabilitation Center. Three additional businesses: Byrd Surveying, Cumberland Sanitation and Hendrickson Trailer Suspension will have the opportunity to complete the series in upcoming workshops.
Montgomery County Director of Administration Phil Harpel took time to visit the workshop members and express his gratitude on behalf of Mayor Carolyn Bowers for their work and interest in making Clarksville and Montgomery County a more sustainable community.
Local Green Certification workshops were developed by the CMCGCP Work Committee, a group of environmental professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to support the community in this sustainability endeavor. The work committee also serve as presenters in the workshops and include representatives from Bridgestone Metalpha USA, Hemlock Semiconductor, L.L.C. and Trane – representative of the companies that lead the CMCGCP along with Planters Bank, Florim USA and Page & Tuttle. Leaders from these businesses are the members of the Steering Committee who provide guidance for the program.
Businesses learn how they can save money on their bottom line expenses, share resources for disposal of waste materials, develop environmental plans and prepare for future mandates and changes through the workshops. Organizations that participate in the workshops also learn about the environmental issues that affect Clarksville and Montgomery County from local professionals who work in those areas. These professionals represent Bi-County Solid Waste Management, Clarksville Department of Electricity, Clarksville Gas & Water, the Metropolitan Planning Organization and Montgomery County Stormwater Management. This workshop group was treated to an educational tour at the Bi-County landfill and lunch following the tour.
