Charter Group Completes First Series of Green Workshops

The first group of local manufacturers, businesses and government representatives completed the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP) workshops in late May. The group began its endeavor in March, 2011 and worked and learned together through a series of three workshops that lasted approximately four hours each.

Local Green Certification workshops were developed by the CMCGCP Work Committee, a group of environmental professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to support the community in this sustainability endeavor. The work committee includes representatives from Bridgestone Metalpha, Hemlock Semiconductor, L.L.C. and Trane – representative of the companies that lead the CMCGCP along with Planters Bank.

“I just finished the Green Certification workshops, and I think that other manufacturers should be encouraged to apply for future workshops to learn sustainable practices around waste, energy, and water usage.” said Ron Smithfield, President of Smithfield Manufacturing.

County Mayor Carolyn Bowers expressed her support at the last workshop by thanking the group for leading the way in their commitment toward green practices.

Organizations that participate in the workshops will learn about the environmental issues that affect Clarksville and Montgomery County from local professionals who work in those areas as well as how they can save money on their bottom line and prepare for future mandates and changes that are expected

The CMCGCP program stemmed from a 2010 Leadership Clarksville Class with support from the City and County Mayors and leadership from the businesses mentioned above.

The next series of workshops for June through August is full but openings are available in the September through November. Please contact CMCGCP Manager, Michelle Newell for more information at [email protected] or call 931-217-3332.
