Criminal Investigation and Intelligence

The Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Section is led by a lieutenant and is divided into different units:

The General Crimes Unit is responsible for investigating crimes against people and property.  Some of the crimes against people that the unit investigates includes aggravated assaults, robberies, kidnappings, domestic and adult sexual assaults and current and cold case homicides. The crimes against property that the unit investigates includes aggravated burglary, theft, vandalism, embezzlement, and fraud. Through the investigative process, members of the General Investigations unit interview witnesses and victims and interrogate suspects to prepare cases for prosecution. 

The Special Victims Unit is responsible for investigating all crimes committed by and against juveniles, including but not limited to vandalism, theft, assault, mischievousness, truancy, unruliness, runaways, underage drinking/smoking. Assists parents and caregivers in seeking petitions to court for any unruly, delinquent or truant child. Duties and responsibilities include investigating criminal cases, processing crime scenes, preparing case files for prosecution, testifying in legal proceedings and other related investigative duties. The investigator assists in underage compliance checks and at times saturation and checkpoints.

The Narcotics Unit is a task force with agents in Montgomery County that aggressively investigates drug dealers. The Narcotics Unit works with all local, state, and federal agencies to reach our goal of a drug-free community.

The Environmental Enforcement Unit is responsible for responding to all illegal dumping, littering, and hazardous spill calls. The unit consists of one Investigator Sergeant, four Deputy Sheriffs who are part of the Litter Abatement Program of the Montgomery County Workhouse, and one Reserve Deputy Sheriff.

The County Records Unit is responsible for processing nearly 18,000 non-emergency calls and requests for service per week. In addition, County Records is responsible for processing all the reports that are received from the deputy sheriffs and investigators at the end of their shifts. One supervisor and nine clerks maintain this operation 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
